McCool to lead Lindsey Wilson College softball program By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Ashley McCool has been named the softball coach at Lindsey Wilson College, athletics director Willis Pooler announced on Friday. The appointment marks the first collegiate head coaching position for the Brentwood, TN, native. McCool served as assistant coach last season at Lee University. "It's clear that Ashley has a passion for the game of softball," Pooler said. "Combine her enthusiasm with her association with winning programs and Ashley is the perfect fit to lead our softball program. "I'm convinced that she will provide our student-athletes with a meaningful experience, both on the field and in the classroom, while elevating the program to national prominence." McCool helped Lee to a 39-14 record and a share of the Southern States Athletic Conference regular season championship last season. Prior to Lee, McCool spent two seasons as the head coach at Antioch High School. "I am so excited about this wonderful opportunity at Lindsey Wilson College," McCool said. "I'm blessed to be a part of an exceptional institution with a caring and devoted administration and staff that clearly cares about its students on and off the field. "I look forward to working with the returning student-athletes and incoming freshmen to continue with the recent success in building a winning tradition." McCool knows a little bit about winning traditions. As a student-athlete, McCool helped Trevecca Nazarene University to a pair of top-five finishes at the NAIA Softball World Series. She was selected as the TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Player of the Year in 2006 and concluded her career as a four-time all-conference performer. She ranks in the program's top-five in hits, doubles, runs batted in, home runs and batting average. McCool replaces Victoria Masters, who resigned in early May. She inherits a program that finished the 2009 season with a 26-19 record and a third place finish in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. All but three Blue Raiders return for McCool's debut season in 2010. This story was posted on 2009-06-19 15:46:44
