A guest review: Dippin at the Dairy

Written with humor, a bit of bias (she a known and admitted Coca-Cola-ian) and some blasphemy ("I was apprehensive to try the BBQ sandwich because I have found other establishments in Kentucky have left me disappointed"), the account is pretty accurate, and adds a touch of empathy for the plight of the Willis and Hamlett kids, when she writes,"They prefer fresh ingredients even if it means (lower profits and) their children might not go on to higher education." -EW

By Pamela Mikaelian

I finally experienced a long-time Columbia tradition today by eating at Columbias Dairy Dip.

After perusing the menu, I opted for the pork BBQ sandwich, tater tots and a fountain drink. I was pleasantly surprised that this hit my wallet for just $5.29.

Even though I tend to be high maintenance, the woman who waited on me was extremely patient and helpful as I asked questions about what came standard on the sandwich I was contemplating ordering.

I was tempted to get a banana milkshake, but one of my dining companions warned me that they are made from fresh bananas and since I do not eat actual fruit, I opted against it.

I prefer banana flavored milkshakes that are high in artificial flavors offering the owners a larger profit margin, but not so at the Dairy Dip. They prefer fresh ingredients even if it means their children might not go on to higher education.

I was shocked when our orders were ready within minutes.

The piping hot tots were cooked perfectly, although the oil tasted as though it was a bit too fresh. I am used to a certain flavor of oil that has not been changed as often as it should be.

I was pleasantly surprised to find three packets of iodized salt in my bag along with ten packets of Heinz tomato ketchup.

It was also nice to have a nice supply of napkins since I am not the classiest of eaters.

I was apprehensive to try the BBQ sandwich because I have found other establishments in Kentucky have left me disappointed. However, I was pleased not only that the BBQ itself was tasty, but the roll was extremely fresh and soft.

I felt a party in my mouth as I devoured the sandwich. Not being a fan of Pepsi products, I cannot rate the fountain drink without bias.

I am a Coca-Cola fan through and through. Had diet Dr. Pepper (it does taste more like Dr. Pepper) been an option, I would have opted for the Doc.

I have never had a Pepsi product that was remotely enjoyable, however it did wet my whistle as I munched on my sandwich and tots.

Columbias Dairy Dip is a wonderful place to get fresh food and friendly service.

I recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys eating!
Dsclaimer: The Dairy Dip is a long time ColumbiaMagazine.com advertiser. And, yes, we will screen posts about reviews. And no, we probably won't give a free ride for a laudatory review of any restaurant which isn't in "What's Cooking in Adair County" but ought to be. -EW
