Garrison gets waterline; Caldwell to build million gallon tank Total cost of both projects are $2,842,743 Click on headline for complete story and photo(s) By Ed Waggener Garrison Construction Company of Adair County, KY, was the low bidder for the 12" Columbia Western Bypass waterline construction and has been awarded the bid by the Adair County Water District board. Caldwell Tank Company was the low bidder for a one million gallon water tank to be built at Holladay Place, and was award the contract. The construction is subject to some routine approvals, and construction is expected to start within the next two months. The projects should be complete within one year to 14 months. The new water tank is a composite one, built with both concrete and steel. The new water line and tank will improve distribution in the South end of Adair County and will mean better fire protection, with enough water pressure to allow the installation of fire hydrants anywhere in the area. The new water line will also mean that water bound for South Adair County will no longer be routed through the Columbia Utilities Water system and its Page Street tank; the reduction will likely necessitate major operational changes for the city system. Both awards were made at the Adair County Water District's June meeting, June 11, 2009, with all members present voting for the actions. Chairman Danny Downey presided, with members Larry Legg, Rudy Higginbotham, and Mitch Harris present and voting to accept. Member Rabon Burton was absent. Seven bids received for waterline Garrison Construction Company's winning bid was $1,413,143. Seven bids were received:
