The James Gang? Why no response?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Since I have not had any response to my inquiry about the James Gang riders in Columbia, I am taking it that it is a secret, closed, society. Am I correct?

s/Charles Marshburn

By no means. Adair Countians are not prone to talk at random, to give opinions and facts without serious reflection. At this very moment, several respected historians, all with opinions which are poles apart, are researching your question. For a fact, just one aspect of the robbery, the exact location of the "Open the Gate, Conover," gate is being debated. It was on the "Columbia to the Greasy Creek settlements" road, somewhere near the State Park, Highway 55 South Road, Columbia, KY. At least two locations, almost as many as the authenticated birthplaces of Abraham Lincoln are candidates. In due time, the information will be revealed. In the meantime, for you and those eager to learn about the glorious history of Adair County, there is the Adair County Genealogical Society, which meets each first Monday at 6:00pmCT, at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. A $15 membership, gets a year's subscription to the quarterly Adair County Review which is worth the dues, whether you've the gumption to make it to the meetings or not. -EW
