Birds of Kentucky: Pileated Woodpecker

Master Woody
Photographer Tony Harvey submitted this great shot of a pileated woodpecker to the ColumbiaMagazine pool at Flickr.

Tony says,
"We've had some new neighbors moved in nearby, this young male Pileated is one of two who've taken up residence on a adjoining farm, along with their parents who occasionally wander onto the farm here in the Tabor community.

Their call or song is almost primeval sounding. They're cousins to the Ivory Bill that is reportedly been seen in Arkansas in recent years once thought to have be extinct . June 09"
