Adair County raises $29,903.57 for 2009 Crusade for Children

The Adair County Fire Dept totals for the 56 annual WHAS Crusade for Children turned in from the three county fire departments at the Adair County Elementary School on Saturday, June 6, 2009 was as follows:
  • Columbia-Adair Co. Fire Dept> raised: $26,930.23
  • Knifley Fire Department raised$1,742.42
  • Breeding Fire Department $1,230.92
  • TOTAL $29,903.57
The turn-in was televised live on WBKO-Tv, Bowling Green, KY, with news caster Chris Allen as the announcer. In addition to Adair County Fire Departments, the Russell Springs Fire Department from Russell County and the Summersville Fire Department from Green County were also on hand.

The brightest news in the turnin came when Captain Jason Upchurch of Knifley Fire Department reported that collections there were $1,742.42, more than double the 2008 total of $705.59.

2009 Crusade Turn In: Brinks Truck picks up collections

A BRINKS ARMORED TRUCK pulled in front of Adair County Elementary School immediately after the close of the live telecast Saturday evening to pick up the more than $30,000 turned in by Adair County Fire Departments from Columbia, Breeding, and Knifley; Green County's Summerville Fire Department, and Russell County's Russell Springs Fire Department. At right is WBKO's Chris Allen, talking with Brandon Lewis, Columbia Crusade Chairman; Robert Montgomery is taking down the Crusade symbol, and Billy Caldwell is at left by the fire truck. The person in the foreground is Crusade Coordinator Bob Greenwell of Bullitt Co., who is in his last year in the position. Next year, Chief Allen Johnson of the Campbellsville Fire Department will be the area coordinator.
