Chris Curley and Brian Chase, both juniors on Campbellsville University's 39-12 NAIA World Series team, have been named to the 2009 NAIA Baseball All-American Second Team.

Curley and Chase are the only players from a Mid-South Conference team to receive the honor this year.

The NAIA Baseball Coaches Association All-American Selection Committee selects the First, Second and Honorable Mention teams.

Seventeen position players are named to the First and Second teams. Thirty-four players, without specific position consideration, are chosen on the Honorable Mention team.

"It's great for the program," said coach Beauford Sanders after his team returned from its first-ever trip to the World Series.

Only Donnie Johnson, first team 2006; Enrique Lazu, first team 1999; and Demond Thomas, first team 1995 and second team 1996; have been so honored.

Chase, from San Jose, Calif., led the team in batting average (.457), hits (80), RBIs (71) and had a sterling .974 fielding percentage while playing 51 games at first base for the Tigers. Chase's batting average ranked 13th in the NAIA and his 71 RBIs ranked 14th.

Curley, from Fort Mitchell, Ky., led the team in runs (64), doubles (15), home runs (19), and slugging percentage (.837). He had a .930 fielding percentage while playing 51 games at third base. His team-leading 19 home runs ranked 13th in the NAIA, and his .837 slugging percentage was 17th nationally.

The All-Americans combined to score 29 percent of the team's 433 runs, 24 percent of the team's 559 hits, 26 percent of the Tigers' 100 doubles, 56 percent of the team's 64 home runs and 35 percent if the squads 396 RBIs.

"And another great thing is they both have another year with us," Sanders said. --Richard RoBards, correspondent
