City Council Meets tonight, Monday, June 1, 2009 PRINTER FRIENDLY COUNCIL AGENDA, JUNE !, 2009 By Ed Waggener The Columbia City Council meets tonight in its regular monthly session. The Council will discuss and have a first reading of the Budget for 2009-2010, which includes a 2% pay raise for city employees. Major issues have developed between some of the Council and the Mayor & City Clerk on the budget. Councillor Edwin Taylor is recommending eliminating a $10,000 donation to the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce and a similar donation to the Columbia-Adair County Economic Development Authority. He is also questioning the donation of $10,000 to the group Renaissance Columbia. Councillor June Parson, is suggesting modifications in the support, and Councillor Charles Grimsley has asked for more detailed information from the Chamber and the EDA. Councillor Linda Waggener voiced an opinion on the Chamber of Commerce, saying that wants more detailed information presented to the Council about how funds are used between the Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Board, and the Columbia-Adair County Economic Development Board. Councillor Waggener also questioned the use of City tax money to support the Chamber if dues are charged and the Chamber does not allow all ciitizens to participate in its activities. The opinions were voiced at a special called meeting May 27, 2009. PRINTER FRIENDLY COUNCIL AGENDA, JUNE !, 2009 This story was posted on 2009-06-01 04:54:09
