It helps us remember that, at one time, nearly everyone in Adair County, including almost everyone in Columbia, had neighborhood roosters for alarm clocks, frying chickens in their yards, sometimes going from backyard to black skillet after church on Sunday; and a henhouse where fresh eggs were gathered every morning.
