COLUMBIA, KY - Throughout the spring, Lindsey Wilson College football coach Chris Oliver has built the foundation of the Blue Raiders' program by signing 58 members to his first recruiting class. Oliver expanded that foundation today by adding the first two members of his coaching staff.

Oliver has named Brian Foos offensive coordinator and Mike Gutelius defensive coordinator.

"I am very happy that Coach Foos and Coach Gutelius have decided to join the Blue Raider football program," Oliver said. "After sorting through dozens of resumes and speaking with many candidates, I have little doubt that these two men are the best fits for our program. Not only are both of them great football coaches, but they truly care about the academic and personal success of their players. Those traits fall right in line with the goals and mission of Blue Raider football."

Foos comes to LWC from Ohio Dominican U

Foos comes to Lindsey Wilson after spending the last five seasons at Ohio Dominican University, where he was responsible for coaching tight ends and quarterbacks. He was the team's academic coordinator during the 2008 season.

Foos was promoted to offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator following Oliver's departure from Ohio Dominican in January to become Lindsey Wilson's coach.

"Having worked with Brian Foos over the past five seasons, I've seen firsthand how he conducts himself on and off the field," Oliver said. "He's an effective coach who pushes his players to succeed on the field and in the classroom. He's a great recruiter, and he has a strong work ethic. His playing and coaching experience will be a great asset for us as he oversees our offensive line.

"In addition, he has a thorough knowledge of the offensive system we will run at Lindsey Wilson. He was on staff during our first season of football at Ohio Dominican University in 2004, so he's been through the process of starting a football program once before. He's a great fit."

Prior to Ohio Dominican, Foos was defensive line coach at Ohio Wesleyan University in 2003 and offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Otterbein (Ohio) College in 2002.

As a student-athlete, Foos started 39 games on the offensive line at Otterbein during the 1998-2001 seasons. While at Tiffin Columbian High School, he was Honorable Mention All-State, First Team All-Northwest Ohio and First Team All-Northern Ohio League offensive lineman.

"I'm excited about the opportunity here at Lindsey Wilson, and I look forward to being a part of starting the new program," Foos said. "I fully appreciate the Lindsey Wilson College mission, and I'm eager to work with Coach Oliver and this staff to produce quality student-athletes that live up to that mission."

Gutelius comes to LWC from Concord (WV) University

"I feel very fortunate to find a defensive coordinator like Mike Gutelius," Oliver said. "After getting to know Coach Gutelius throughout this process he quickly separated himself from a very large pool of candidates. He's a great person with a tremendous defensive mind, and he's a details guy, which I love.

"He's spent the last eight seasons in NCAA-Division 2 football, so he knows the type of student-athletes we need to succeed at the partial-scholarship level. I received an incredible number of outstanding references about Mike and once you get to know him you understand why. He exudes professionalism and character. Coach Gutelius will be a great asset as we build our defense and our program."

Prior to Concord, Gutelius spent two seasons as defensive ends coach at Wingate (N.C.) University. He has also coached at University of La Verne (Calif.), St. Norbert (Wis.) College and Catholic University of America.

"What a great time to be joining Lindsey Wilson College," Gutelius said. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to assist Coach Oliver and help build a championship football program while working closely with the faculty and administration to help develop our student-athletes into quality young men."

Lindsey Wilson kicks off its first football season since 1935 on September 4, 2010, at home. Lindsey Wilson will compete in the NAIA as a member of the Mid-South Conference.
