Obituary: Bertha McCubbin Berry, 90, Green Co., KY

Mrs. Berry was the matriarch of a large, respected Green County family. She leaves 147 living descendants. She was a member of the Allendale Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker

Mrs. Bertha Matilda McCubbin Berry of Summersville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Elam McCubbin and Lillie Wilson McCubbin was born on October 5, 1918 in Green County, Kentucky and departed this life on Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg. She was 90 years, seven months and 20 days of age.

The funeral services for Mrs. Bertha McCubbin Berry will be conducted at 1:00pmCT, Wednesday, May 27, 2009. at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Green County. KY. Bro. Mickey Pruitt will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 3:00 to 9:00pmCT, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7:00amCT, Wednesday, May 27, 2009, until time of the funeral service.



She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Allendale Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She united in marriage to Otha Berry on January 2, 1936 who preceded her in death on April 17, 1973.Survivors include the following:
  • Five daughters and four sons-in-law: Letha Milby of Summersville, KY, Martha and Monta Childress, Juanita and Boyce Dobson, Cindy and Leroy Shelton, Betty and Rev. Tom Downey all of Magnolia, KY

  • Three sons and daughters-in-law: William and Susie Berry of Greensburg, KY; Rev. Finis and Barbara Berry, and Jimmy and Rita Berry all of Summersville, KY

  • A daughter-in-law: Maybelle Berry of Summersville, KY

  • A brother: Tom McCubbin of Greensburg, KY

  • A step-sister: Annie Durrett of Summersville, KY

  • A step-brother: Anthony Creason of Summersville, KY

  • And 39 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren; a host of step-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends
Mrs. Berry was also preceded in death by a son: Otis Berry; a son-in-law: Billy Milby; eight brothers and sisters: Eunice McCubbin, Lucille England, Adrian McCubbin, Kendrick McCubbin, Chris McCubbin, Vinge McCubbin, Loxie Boyd and Geneva McCubbin; two grandchildren: Ronnie Milby and Gregory Berry
