Child airlifted to Louisville following accident on KY 55 N

A 21 month only Adair County child was airlifted from Westlake Regional Hospital to Kosair Children's Hospital following an accident near the Gate Gas Station at the corner of Grant Lane and Campbellsville Road/KY 55N, in Columbia, KY.

Columbia Police investigated the incident Monday afternoon, May 18, 2009, at approximately 7:48pmCT.

The accident occurred when a Ford Explorer being operated by Marianne Grant of Columbia, KY had run out of gas and was being pushed on the shoulder of Campbellsville Road into Gate parking lot.



While in motion, 21 month old Kaylee Grant, apparently climbed from her car seat and opened the rear door. Kaylee fell under the wheel of the vehicle.

She was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by Adair EMS and was transferred by air ambulance to Kosairs Childrens Hospital in Louisville, where she was listed in serious condition.

The accident was investigated by officer Jamie Cole. He was assisted by Officer Kevin Atwood. -SGT J. CROSS.
