Metcalfe Veteran receives French Legion of Honor Award Click on headline for full story plus photo By Geniece Marcum WWII veteran Walter Rondyl Leftwich, Metcalfe County native, now of Glasgow, KY, has been awarded the French Legion of Honor. He has received letters of congratulations from the Consul General of France, located in Chicago and also in Washington, informing him that on behalf of the people of France the President of the French Republic has named him Knight of the Legion of Honor for his valorous action during World War II. "The Legion of Honor was created by Napoleon in 1802 to acknowledge services rendered to France by persons of great merit. It is the highest honor that France can bestow upon those who have achieved remarkable deeds for France. The Metcalfe County VFW, will hold the award ceremony to present his medal at the Leftwich House, at Bowling Park near Edmonton.
