Happy Birthday: Hayden's fourth

2009-05-08 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Melissa Taylor.
HAYDEN BENNETT'S FOURTH BIRTHDAY WAS MAY 6, 2009: Melissa Taylor writes, "Hayden's incognito accomplices reluctantly agreed to shed their Spidey masks long enough for this photo.... They are, Back row, Ricki Anne Rogers, Kenzi Rogers, Katie Stone, Madison Grant, Ty Bennett and Wes Stone. Second from back: C.J. Bonifer, Schyler VanArsdale, Jalen Rogers, Jonathan Grant. Third from back: Brenton Billingsly, Caleb Lee, Kobe Stapp, Savon Stapp, Jonathan Grant, Quinton VanArsdale. Of course, the young lady looking at big brother Hayden with so much admiration is Miss Addie Bennett. Madison Billingsly, Parker Bonifer, Ava West, Callie Morrison, Cameron Kimbler, Andrew Zinati, and Bryant (a.k.a. Burr Ray) Rogers were all much too busy playing to be troubled with such bothersome things as photos! At right Hayden was excited and a bit surprised to blow out his candle on the first try -- but, of course he's a big boy now! "

Birds of Kentucky: Cardinal eating a wire #2

2009-05-09 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
EATING A GUY WIRE IS SERIOUS BUSINESS: One can see it in the squinted eyes and the grip the Cardinal is using. The photographer who brought you "Birdbrained Driver," and "Robin vs. Buick," has photographed another crazy bird, this time a cardinal trying to eat a guy-wire. She was trying to shoot a photo of Russell Creek flooding on Campbellsville Street when she heard the odd noise created by the cardinal.

In time for Mother's Day, a bouquet of flowers

2009-05-09 - Columbia, Ky - Photo by Trooper 558.
Beautiful flower gardens in Columbia have gotten some nice showers, which not only make them grow, but, as ColumbiaMagazine.com Group at Flickr photographer Trooper 558 discovered, the raindrops can really enhance their beauty. The large photo, Trooper 558 writes, is of a "beautiful pink rose at the home of Shirley Wall, Maple Street" in Columbia, KY. The top right, was "caught after the rain on Maple Street Friday," May 8, 2009, as was the white irs. The flower in the lower right hand side is also from Maple Street, at the home of the late Irene Royse, Maple Street, Columbia, KY. Flickr. Mountain Laurel Watch: May 9, 2009

2009-05-09 - Jericho Cliffs, Corbins Bend RD, District 6, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Pen.
Mountain Laurel is popping into bloom. This photo was taken Saturday, May 9, 2009. With the warmer weather, the full glory of the shrub will be in evidence. It's already interesting enough to make a Sunday drive to the Holmes Bend, Jericho, Charity Church area a very worth while venture on Mother's Day 2009.
