Collision on Wisdom Dock RD, Clinton Co., KY, takes life

Rain, oil slick road blamed for causing driver to lose control. One passenger dies; one driver airlifted to UK, other driver treated and released in Albany. KY

CLINTON COUNTY - At approximately 1:00pmCT, today, Friday, May1, 2009, Post 15 Columbia received a call from Clinton County Dispatch in reference to a collision on Wisdom Dock Road.

A collision occurred when a 2006 GMC pickup operated by Summer Abston, age 16, of Albany, was traveling north of KY553 (Wisdom Dock Road), entered a curve and lost control of the vehicle due to heavy rain and a large amount of oil on the roadway.



After losing control, Abston left the northbound lane and entered the southbound lane, striking a 1988 Ford operated by JD Cross, age 72, of Albany, head on.

A passenger in the Cross vehicle, 70 year old Betty Jane Cross, of Albany, was pronounced deceased at the Clinton County Hospital.

All occupants were belted at the time of the collision. Abston was treated and released from the Clinton County Hospital. JD Cross was transferred to UK Hospital for his injuries.

Sgt. Jamie Heller, Unit 192, of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, is investigating the collision. Sgt. Heller was assisted at the scene by Clinton County Sheriff Rick Riddle, Clinton County EMS, and Clinton County Fire-Rescue. The investigation is continuing by Sgt. Heller.
