Obituary: Dennis McQueary, 72, Columbia, KY

Mr. McQueary was a member of a prominent Adair Co., KY family and a farmer

Dennis McQueary, age 72, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2009at 3:15pmCT at Willow Crossing Health & Rehab in Columbus, IN after an illness.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster the officiating clergy. Interment in Bearwallow Cemetery, 6080 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY in the Christine Community on KY 206. Visitation will be after Visitation after 4:30pmCT on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at the funeral home.


He was born May 11, 1936, the son of the late Joe and Gracie Burton McQueary of Adair County, KY.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cook Matthews McQueary, onSeptember 11, 2002.

He is survived by the following:
  • Two sisters: Mable Vincent, Edinburgh, IN; and Srena Burton of Troy, OH

  • Three step-sons: Billy Matthews, David Matthews and Larry Matthews of Columbia, KY

  • One step-daughter: Mary Morrison, Columbia, KY

  • Seven step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, and several nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters: Woody McQueary, Coy McQueary, Cecil Burton, Jewel Burton, Betty Dargel, Hazel Harmon, Daisy Burris and Louise Absher.

He was a farmer.
