Future Breeding, KY, resident knows a lot about raising tobacco

Grew the 'bright stuff'... in 'defining years' growing up in Virginia
About: "Charles Marshburn comments on state of things here"

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

As a matter of fact, I do know a little about tobacco. I worked a tobacco farm in Virginia for two years. Grew the "bright" kind though, picked it one leaf at a time. I respect the farmer after many of my own long hours in the tractor seat. Did some tobacco slide stuff with mules too. In restrospect, those were the defining years of my life. Hard times, good friends, great memories.Yes, Florida is suffering a brain drain. The smart ones are getting out and moving to Kentucky. My wife and I have 24 years each in law enforcement (Sheriff's Deputies). When we are done if Florida wants to find me it better burn down the woods and shift through the ashes.
