Adair turkey hunters doing relatively well this season

ColumbiaMagazine.com special report

Adair County hunters are enjoying higher success than hunters in neighboring counties, according to telecheck results at the Kentucky Fish & Wildlife for the Spring Season, 2009, as of April 22, 2009, though hunters in Green and Metcalfe County appear to be getting the hang of it, with reports of just a dozen or so fewer birds taken than in Adair County.
2009 Turkey Season results through April 22, 2009
For Greater Columbia, KY 7-County Area

  1. Adair County, total turkey harvest, 145
  2. Green County, total turkey harvest, 133
  3. Metcalfe County, total turkey harvest, 131
  4. Cumberland County, total turkey harvest, 112
  5. Casey County, total turkey harvest, 103
  6. Taylor County, total turkey harvest, 82
  7. Russell County, total turkey harvest, 66
Only 15 of the 120 counties in Kentucky report higher turkey harvests than Adair County, and many of them, including Ohio and Pulaski Counties, are much larger.

Renown turkey hunter Stevie "Rerun" Cornelison, thinks the results in Adair County must attributed to the cunning, resourcefulness, great marksmanship and bulldog tenacity of Adair County hunters. So far this season--and he's been out often--he says, "I just haven't seen many turkeys," and, he says, "yesterday, I got a shot at a nice one, but missed."

It is so bad, he said, that he's willing to take advice from almost anybody, except for Ryan Beard and a few others, to help his season. Most of the time Rerun can be found at his real life job, proprietoring and and cheffing at Rerun's Holmes Bend General Store, on Holmes Bend Road, near Green River Lake.
