Just how many winters are there? Is this Dogwood Winter we're in now? by Judy Corbin Just how many winters are there before warm weather is here to stay? I know of Redbud, Dogwood, and Blackberry, and have heard of Linen Britches which is just when you can start wearing short sleeves and linen pants. I have also heard of Stump Winter, when you bring in the last bit of firewood and use up, but I just read on the Internet that there is a Whippoorwill winter, when the Whippoorwill migrated in for the summer. These old folks' tales of winters get mighty interesting as I grow older. This story was posted on 2009-04-21 15:32:45
