CU Chorale, Handbell Choir to perform April 24, 2009 Performance in The Gheens Recital Hall is free and open to the public; Complete list of student performers listed below By Joan C. McKinney, CU news and publications coordinator CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - The Campbellsville University Chorale and Handbell Choir will perform at 8:00pmET/7:00pmCT, Friday, April 24, 2009, in The Gheens Recital Hall in the Gosser Fine Arts Center, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville. The public is invited to the free concert. The chorale performs a wide variety of literature in a broad spectrum of musical styles, including accompanied and a cappella pieces and both sacred and secular selections, according to Dr. Tony Cunha, assistant professor of music and assistant dean of the School of Music, who directs the chorale. The 51-member ensemble will perform works by G. F. Handel, John Gardner, Paul Basler, Alice Parker, Tim Sarsany, Mark Hayes, John Clements and Dr. David Hedrick, CU adjunct faculty member. Dr. Cunha is coordinator of church music program Dr. Tony Cunha joined the faculty of Campbellsville University in January 2007. He is the coordinator of the church music program. In addition to directing the University Chorale, he directs a contemporary ensemble (New Doxology) and teaches courses in church music and conducting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the Baptist Church Music Conference, the Central Kentucky Arts Series and the College Music Society. CU School of Music accredited by NASM Campbellsville University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is approved by the Kentucky Department of Education for teacher education and certification. The School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Students of the School of Music may choose from several programs of study leading to degrees in music. The bachelor of music degree with an area in church music prepares students for music ministry in churches. For those desiring teacher certification to teach music in public schools, the bachelor of music degree with an area in music education is available. Another option is the bachelor of arts degree with an area in music. A minor in music or church music also is available. At the graduate level, the School of Music offers master of music degrees in music education, church music, piano pedagogy, musicology, conducting, performance (voice, piano, organ, instrumental) and a master of arts in music.
