Obituary: William Arbie Sparks, 84, Gradyville, KY

Mr. Sparks was a member of a prominent merchantile and farming family of the Gradyville community. He was a member of the Gradyville Baptist Church, a US Army Veteran of WWII, a member of VFW Post 6097 and the DAV, and was a retired farmer His wife, Claristine Richard Sparks, survives., Adair County, KY (1929-2018)

William Arby Sparks, 84, of the Gradyville community, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at 4:39pmCT at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service for William Arbie Sparks, 84, is Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 11amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 4:00pmCT, Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Burial will be in Sparks Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 6097.



He was the son of the late John Wes and Elva Hunter Sparks, a member of Gradyville Baptist Church, a US Army Veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 6097, Columbia, KY; a member of DAV, and a retired farmer.

Survivors include the following:
  • His wife: Claristine Richard Sparks, Adair County, KY (1929-2018), Columbia, KY

  • One son: Jeff (Phyllis) Sparks, Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Carolyn Sue Sparks, Columbia, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Jason (Leslie) Sparks and Tabetha (Mike) Sparks, both of Columbia, KY

  • One great grandchild: Jayden Sparks

  • Four sisters: Norma "Butch" McCormick, Russellville, KY; Irene Love, Bowling Green, KY; Virginia Wonderling, Wisconsin; and Myrtle Fay Campbell, Illinois
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe C. Sparks and James C. "Jiggs" Sparks; and two sisters, Marie Breeding and Mary Frances Petway
