Lindsey Wilson College Women's Golf leads at Brickyard Jamestown, KY, Golf star Krista Burton leads LWC at Brickyard Tournament, Indianapolis, IN By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's golf team shot a Spring-best 309 today in the Battle at the Brickyard hosted by University of Saint Francis (IN) at Brickyard Crossings. Lindsey Wilson junior Krista Burton led three Blue Raiders with rounds in the 70s. Burton recorded four birdies in her one-over par 73 (34-39) round over the 6,028 yard, par 72 course. The Jamestown, KY, native, had a stretch of three birdies over four holes on the outward nine en route to a 34. Burton birdied holes five, seven and eight on the front side and added a birdie on the par 3 13th en route to a three-shot lead after the opening round. Lindsey Wilson junior Jessica Smith and sophomore Chelsey Key join University of Indianapolis' Kristi Piepenbrink in a tie for second with first round 76s. Smith opened her round with a birdie, but stumbled on the par 3s to shoot 39 on the outward nine. The Louisville native back-to-back holes (No. 14 and No. 15) en route to her four over par 76 (39-37). Key provided a pair of birdies on the day and a first round-best 12 pars. Key secured her 76 (38-38) with a pair of clutch par putts on No. 16 and No. 18. Lindsey Wilson junior Cheslee Stone is tied for 17th following an 84 (42-42) and freshman Paola Gonzalez is tied for 29th with an 89 (43-46). Senior Aline Decker, playing as an individual, is tied for 14th with an 83 (42-41). NCAA Division II No. 10-ranked Indianapolis is second overall with a first round 320. Franklin (IN) College is third following a 333. The final round is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Brickyard Crossings, at Brickyard Crossings Resort, 4400 W. 16th ST, Indianapolis, IN.
