The unanimous vote came from a recommendation from Superintendent Darrell Treece, on a motion by Member Greg Willis (1), seconded by Marsha Walker (2), with Chairman Chris Watts (3), Floyd Burton (4) and Mike Harris (5) joining them in the vote. The vote came in a day when the money in the bank thermometer at AdairBand.com rose to $75,200, an amount Band Booster Doyle Lloyd said included checks Adair Fiscal Court for $3,000 and from several members of the court for $300 in personal funds with additional donations including a $1,000 anonymous gift from a very public spirited Adair Countian. "We're definitely on a streak," he said tonight after the well-attended meeting. During the meeting he was handed another check for $500 from another individual. Mr. Treece confirms that Tom Case will be new band director In his "Superintendent's Report, Mr. Treece announced that Tom Case, who is presently band director at John Hardin High School, has agreed to become the Adair County Band's Director starting with the 2009-2010 season. He will replace Director Tim Allen, who built the band into a powerhouse, but has agreed to be the first Band Director for the new marching band program at Lindsey Wilson College. Mr. Allen will take that position in the fall of 2009, and will field a band concurrently with the opening of the Lindsey Wilson College's new football program. Mr. Case has served as band director at Boyle County in Danville, KY, where he had a Bands of America Class Champion, at Elizabethown High School, were he won a state class title in 1997, and won a Bands of America title in 1997. He also served as Band Director at Shelby County, KY, and was the first band director at John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown when it openend in 2001 and has led that program to finalist competition in 2002, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2008. Mr. Treece said that a more complete biography would be made public later and said that a night will be set up to welcome the new band director to the community and to allow him to meet the band members, parents, community leaders and the public. "We had five candidates," Mr. Treece said. "We think any of them would have done an outstanding job. Mr. Case comes with the endorsement of Mr. Allen," he said, and noted, "For band members in the audience, if there is anyone in the world who is a tougher disciplinarian than Mr. Allen, it's Mr. Case." Mr. Floyd D. Claywell receives veteran's diploma Mr. Floyd D. Claywell's high school education was interrupted by the Korean War, but tonight, Thursday, April 16, 2009, over 55 years later, he received his Adair County High School Diploma. The diploma was presented in a special segment of the meeting. Superintendent Darrell Treece noted that the Department of Defense authorizes school systems to grant diplomas in circumstances such as Mr. Claywell's. "When Mr. Claywell was drafted," Superintendent Treece said, " the Korean War was in process, but ended shortly thereafter. Mr. Claywell spent his entrie military service in Germany."
