Easter reminded of creeks and hills of Kentucky

By Rachel Lyons

Easter weekend is already upon us and after two warm days, another cold front came in on the north wind, Friday night. With only a couple exceptions, it seems every Easter Sunday I can remember has been snowy, rainy or cold and followed with sunshine later in the day. Thinking about it reminds me of the creeks and hills of KY.

There would usually be some patches of green on the ground and a mist of green beginning in the trees. We walked up the hill to church or sometimes we might ride in the road wagon pulled by pa's mules, old Bob and Bill.By the time I was eight, dad had a vehicle and we rode in that for longer stints. All us children loved riding but it was great fun and interesting walking and seeing the sights one missed in riding.

There might be a puff adder to see on the edge of the dirt road, a spice bush to pull a leaf from and crush, to inhale the fragrance, a caterpillar on the milkweed, so many memories of sights, sounds and smells flood back . . .
