The Lindsey Wilson Cycling team raced at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, this weekend. The Blue Raiders won the Mens A road race with a total of 177 points over Marian college with 142 points.

Junior Kip Spaude of Watertown, WI, took 2nd place for the 2nd consecutive year on the brutal 40 mile course which featured a steep, twisting climb to the finish line.

Freshman Danny Estevez of Worchester, MA, held on for 3rd place while freshman Clayton Omer of Louisville, KY was 10th and junior Stefan Swecker was 12th.

The Lindsey Wilson Cycling team also took 2nd place in the Mens A Team Time Trial event.

Kip Spaude, Clayton Omer, Danny Estevez and Josh Nagode set a blistering pace, covering the 10 mile course in just over 23 minutes for an average speed of over 26 miles per hour.

In Women's A race, Ashley James has phenomenal performance

In the Women's A race, freshman Ashley James of Delafield, WI, was racing solo against the field of 15 riders. Ashley punished the other girls up the tough climb with attack after attack until the field had whittled down to just 2. After the tremendous work Ashley took 2nd for another phenomenal result. Junior Sarah Lukas of Eagle River, WI,, in her first race back after ankle surgery toughed it out to place in the points as well.

The Mens B saw Lindsey sophomore Mike Souers of Fort Wayne, IN hold on for 16th place and in the Mens Cs it was sophomore James Brown taking 11th.

This was one of the most successful road races ever for the Lindsey Wilson cycling team.

COACH DAVID GRIGSBY flew the Lindsey Wilson Cycling teams banner from the staff which came from the Rainwater Tree in front of the L.R. MacDonald Adiministration Building on the A.P. White Campus of Lindsey Wilson College. The plaque on the Rainwater Tree reads, "The Rainwater Oak Tree" was planted in 1907 by Lindsey Wilson student Fred Rainwater, whom legend describes as a Cherokee Indian and long distance runner who planted this tree as his legacy to future generations of students." The complete story of how the staff came to be is at "Honoring Rainwater" on the LWC Cycling Teams webpages, "On the Rivet."
