LWC Singers at Columbia Baptist at 7:00pmCT, April 6, 2009 Click on headline for complete story with roster By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs The Lindsey Wilson Singers will perform at 6:30pmCT, Monday, Aprili 6, 2009, at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. The event is free and open to the public. "For this season, we have 25 remarkably talented Lindsey Wilson Singers who represent numerous majors and all classes, freshman through senior," said Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Programs Gerald L. Chafin. The performance tonight is outlined into three divisions, Chafin said. The first section centers on the first chapter of the Gospel of John. "Textually, we focus on 'The Word was God' theme," Chafin said. "But musically we alternate between the Renaissance era and the contemporary era." The second section takes various texts from the Psalms and again alternates between Renaissance and contemporary eras. The third section highlights the choral spiritual genre with an emphasis on justice. "The historic Underground Railroad movement is connected to the Old Testament account of the Israelites leaving slavery in Egypt," Chafin said.
