Journey to Creelsboro: Famed Crocus sign

2009-04-05 - Crocus, District 3, Adair County, KY - Photo by Shamarie, Claiborne.
Shamarie Claiborne made an epic journey yesterday, from the quiet hobbitat of the Holler, through Ozark, Joppa, Zion, Glens Fork, Crocus, Bryan and Creelsboro to the Rock House bottom. It was impossible not to get this famed sign at the marking point, Crocus, KY 10.8 miles from Columbia, 8.8 miles from Creelsboro, KY, if one takes KY 1058 just past Al Sullivan's place on KY 55. Crocus is the wonderful, whimsical village that's stayed the same since the late Marvin Spickard erected this sign, "CROCUS/POP. 16/and growing" sometime back almost five decades ago.

2009-04-05 - Ft. Myers, FL - Photo by P.Radford Willis.
THIS JUST IN: "Just had to send you this pic. We were at a beach outlet store while in Ft. Myers this past week and I just happened to look next door, and there in the Dunkin' Donut drive thru was aflamingo,I think.(An egret, Janet Hutcheson has written). Of course, I thought of you and what a kick you would get out of the picture, so here it is. I do believe he ordered a latte, decaf of course and light on the froth!!!!!," writes P. Radford Willis, who, in Real Life is the demure proprietress of the Columbia Dairy Dip, 114 Jamestown ST, Columbia, KY, Adair County's most established eatery. She continues, "Also,'Old man winter' is apparently showing himself again, so with this being said we will be having potato soup on Monday along with our vast array of other items," even though Changeover was officially announced. Proving that she, unlike George A. Custer, can reverse a ill-conceived decision. She also reports on the new Taylor Ice Cream Machine everyone is talking about. "We are very happy with our new ice cream machine, just working a few tweaks out of it. but other than that, all is well," and concludes, "Had a great time in sunny Florida, but, I owe, I owe, so it's off to work I go!!"
