Joey Tucker: Tear the old courthouse down To ColumbiaMagazine.com The problem with a lot of towns in America is they want to "save" and "preserve" the past. This often hinders the future. Preservation is often not cost effective in the long run. Tear the old courthouse down, open up the square for better traffic flow. No statues, no parks, no coffee shops, just more room to get around. The upkeep for museums and such is just too great and I lived in Adair county my whole life, so I know what the fiscal court meetings would eventually be like. There would be twenty different people arguing over who would fund the repairs for this, or the repairs for that. Tear it down, sell parts of it to raise money for something else. If people want to remember the past, let them buy a block from the old courthouse to place in their flower garden. The future is forward . . . stop looking back! s/Joey TuckerJoey Tucker.
