Mark Hale: Coffeshop for regular joes? About: David Grigsby: A proposal for the Old Adair Courthouse To ColumbiaMagazine.com: What is a "professional" coffee shop? Does that mean the regular joes like me could not use it. I'm not for that. How about something for the entire public not just the upper crust. Who will fund it? What will profits be used for? Who will be resposible for keeping up such an old structure which has never been anything but a expensive undertaking? If a so called non profit entity is to control it tax dollars should not be used to keep it up. It is something to think about. I don't want to see taxpayers continually burdened with keeping up the old building. Something along the lines of a shop and bookstore would be nice but is the college willing to take on that resposiblity indefinitely? Would it be legal for them to do so? It is owned by the county. Much thought is in order if we want to keep the old building forever. Many dollars will be needed forever. Whatever is decided leave tax dollars out of the mix. Thank You. s/Mark Hale This story was posted on 2009-04-04 01:17:58
