Memory of Freddie Burton makes one think

About: "In Memory of Freddy Burton, by Albert T. Burton

To ColumbiaMagazine:

Mr. Waggener, this memory of Mr. Freddy Burton really made me think.

How true. Time gets by us.

And then we look back thinking, "Wish I had gone to visit or just called more often. It is important to keep in touch with people who have been in your life for important events, or a childhood friend who moved away or your maid of honor in your wedding, or college roommat: There is someone you need to reach out and have been meaning to connect with.Do it now, not later so you have no regrets.

Your past is what has made you the person you are today and maybe there are some special people you need to tell that too.

A few months ago I was contacted by an old high school friend. Her name is Carol Irvin-Cunningham.

We where quite a team, the two of us! I even lived for a short time with the Irvin family who already had five children and one more just did not seem to matter.

I learned so much from her loving family, which I have carried over in my own family.

I have so many fond memories of the two of us sharing our teen secrets, studying together, learning to drive I could go one but I think you get the picture.

Then after we left high school and we lost contact seems funny we where with each other everyday and then as you become and adult in the adult world it takes over you and there are more important things going on you must attend to.

She and I have shared some great memories together during our long chats on the phone and emails. Carol even had old pictures of us she made copies and put in a friendship book for me recently. I am so glad we have reunited at this time in our lives.

There are so many people we both wonder where they are today and we both have made efforts to find some of them.

This wonderful story made me get in contact with a few more of my old friends I have been meaning to go see. I quickly emailed one and called the others. I am now making plans for a summer reunion in my hometown.

Thank you for sharing you memories of Mr. Burton and your heartfelt meaning of love and friendship. You touched my heart.

Carol and Tinker, see you both this summer.

s/Sheila Wood
