Guided hike at Dry Fork Gorge, Metcalfe Co., Saturday Metcalfe County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences Lynn Blankenship, will lead a free guided hike at the Dry Fork Gorge on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Rain or Shine: This will be a 2.5 mile hike with a steep uphill climb at the end. Participants will have to cross two creeks and should wear shoes that are OK to get wet. Dry Fork Gorge is a trail system with a distance of nearly 3 miles and is now available to the general public, nature enthusiasts, and researchers. The user friendly trail is in an 80 acre nature preserve. The trails allow easy hiking access to two caves, a creek, a waterfall, and many other sites containing rare species. By having access to the gorge by a developed trail, users of the conservatory can exercise, relax and even learn while visiting ths preserved area. DIRECTIONS: Participants should meet at the Gorge parking lot at 9:50amCT: From Edmonton, KY, take US 68/KY 80 west. Take a left onto the Old Glasgow Rd. (Route 3234) you will go up blueberry hill, through the S curve, pass Dry Fork Road on the left, go up the second hill and make a left onto Branstetter Road. Go down Branstetter Roadd until you can no longer go straight and you will see the gate to the Gorge entrance right in front of you, follow the rock driveway up the hill and past the barn to the parking lot. Hikers will leave down the trail at 10:00 promptly. -LYNN A. BLANKENSHIP, Metcalfe County ExtensionAgent for Family and Consumer Sciences, 422 East Street, P.O. Box 55Edmonton, Kentucky 42129.
