Writer objects to membership requirement Adair County golfers

Agrees with: "Thinks better idea would be to drop country club image"

Ed,

I can't help but agree with Ms.(Sandra) Howery.

So many people in Adair County love to play golf but can't afford the yearly membership. It's a shame that with little to do in this area, folks here are restricted from the golf course unless they have a spare thousand bucks or so to toss out.

I know several 20-somethings here that would love to take advantage of the course and have a day of fun.

They can afford the ocassional 30 or 40 bucks to play a round, but can't afford to be a member.

Seems to me, affordable fun in Adair County may detour some of the "not so great things" young (and older) people manage to get involved in.

Why must many things be so one sided in this town? What makes sense to me, is to have OPEN and affordable family fun as opposed to fun only to be had by those who can afford a large fee.

Those who golf a lot would still pay the membership because it would be more economical. Those who could only afford a couple trips per year, would just be added income for the golf course.

I only play a couple times per year. At $1000, membership would equate to about $500 per trip for me. I think I'll pass.

s/Shannon Sexton
