Letter: Thinks better idea would be to drop country club image

About: The Pines at Lindsey Wilson: A proud time for Columbia and Adair Co KY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Better yet, (than changing name to "The Pines at Lindsey Wilson") how about dropping the private country club image altogether?

In fact, that is in part, why it failed.

The "club" was only accessible to a small few.

Why not have the golf course open to all, not just a membership population? It is my understanding that it is still a "membership only course and country club."

Also, why not allow members to bring local non-members. Are we not cutting off our nose to spite our face? Many years ago, several members did not renew their membership due to the fact they could not bring non-members to play. Especially now that the facility is owned by the college, why not make it open to all citizens to enjoy?I would bet that of all the Adair County residents, only a very small percentent have ever stepped foot on the property. Why not make this a municipal course and restaurant. Currently one must pay $1,000 annual membership and that member cannot bring a fellow Adair County resident as their guest.

Let's be honest: this is not Valhalla where that membership is roughly $150,000 membership plus $1,500 per month dues. "Adair County Community Golf Course and Country Club" would be a much more positive image to portray and one in which all Adair County citizens would be proud.

Thanks.

s/Sandra Howery
