The flavor is better"It makes a difference." Pen writes. "Farm fresh eggs have distinctly better taste," Pen writes. He's buys them from a farm in Shelby County. At one time, many miniature farms in Columbia had a hen house. The late Mayor Ralph Willis had one on his acreage located where Franklin Nissan is today, on Jamestown Street, just inside the then city limits. Mrs. Allene Lowe had fresh eggs from 701 Jamestown Street. And fresh eggs were currency at E. Campbell's store at the intersection of Jamestown ST and Russell Road. Today, the practice of keeping a few hens and backyard chickens for the table seems to be coming back, just for the sake of taste. Comments and recollections welcome
