John Adair Academic team wins 2009 Governor's Cup event

JAIS tops overall point standing with 56; North Metcalfe 29; Edmonton Elementary 27; and Summer Shade 11. Complete roster of students and coaches below

John Adair's academic team had an outstanding day on Saturday, February 28 at the 2009 Governor's Cup academic competition. Several students competed for individual medals, Quick Recall, and Future Problem Solving.

The team achieved 1st place (second year in a row) with 56 points, 27 points ahead of the 2nd place finisher, North Metcalfe Elementary with 29 points. The Future Problem Solving team took 1st place for the second year in a row. Quick Recall finished 3rd place.




The overall point standing was: John Adair 56 points, North Metcalfe Elementary 29 points, Edmonton Elementary 27 points, and Summershade 11 points.

A number of students achieved individual medals in varying academic areas. They are:
  • Language Arts: Dylan Pendleton, 3rd Place; Grant Cockerham, 1st Place

  • Composition: Wes Stone, 3rd place tie; Kayla Garrison and Kaitlyn Grant, 1st place tie

  • Science: Kieren Ussrey, 2nd Place; Eli Jackson, 1st place

  • Social Studies: Coby Taylor, 2nd place; Garet Day, 1st place

  • Arts/Humanities: Coby Taylor, 4th place tie; Kayla Garrison, 1st place

  • Math: Eli Jackson, 4th place tie
The school also won the Hume Sportsmanship Award, a first for the school.This is the first time all district schools, high school, middle school, and elementary won the sportsmanship award at the same time.

Members of the JAIS Academic Team are Isaac Carter, Grant Cockerham, Haley Cromwell, Garet Day, Kayla Garrison, Kaitlyn Grant, Eli Jackson, Brittany Lee, Tyler Moore, Noah Ollery, Dylan Pendleton, Wes Stone, Jesse Stotts, Lauren Talley, Coby Taylor, Lissette Trejo, Easton Turner, Kieren Ussery, and Rhianna Vanvlymen.

Future Problem Solving Team members are Kaitlyn Grant, Dylan Pendleton, Wes Stone, Easton Turner, Noah Ollery, Coby Taylor, and Lissette Trejo.

The academic team coaches are Betty Knifley, Mary Ann McQuaide, and Jeanna Pike.
