Larry Smith: Entering Green Co, KY, the old timey way

2009-02-25 - On a frontier of Green Co., KY - Photo by Larry Smith.
LARRY SMITH, news anchor for FM 92.7 The WAVE, Russell Creek Hill in Adair County, KY, and the Big DAWG Country Radio in Campbellsville, KY, spotted this old timey, black (or is that green?) on white county line sign. Newer ones are green with white letters. He won't tell where it is, fearing somebody might steal it. But he does point out that it is entering his promised land, as Green County is still the only place in the world where he was born. Smith is a relatively young pup, or he'd remember when, times, many eons ago, when one packed a fried chicken dinner to drive to to the next county, black and white vertical, rectangular signs about like this told you what county you were entering as well as what county you were leaving. "Entering Adair County. Leaving Metcalfe County," the sign would say. To see other Larry Smith photos from the past, enter his name in the searchbox.
