LWC Mens Basketball beats Campbellsville, 66-58 Raider defense big factor in No. 15 ranked LWC victory By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director The Lindsey Wilson College mens basketball team scored the games first nine points and never trailed in beating Campbellsville (KY) University 66-58 Thursday night, February 19, 2009, at Biggers Sports Center. No. 15-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (21-5, 6-3 in the Mid-South Conference) built an early lead and extended it to as many as 17 points in the second half before hanging on for the win. With eight minutes left, Lindsey Wilson looked to be on cruise control before the Tigers (8-17, 0-9) used a 14-0 run to climb within three with three minutes remaining. But thats as close as it would get as the Lindsey Wilson junior Eric McPherson hit an 18-footer from straight away to the Blue Raiders a cushion. Lindsey Wilson did the rest from the free throw line. The Blue Raiders made 10-of-12 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the 66-58 win. McPherson led the way at the charity stripe making all four freebies to close the game. The Cleveland native finished with a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Lindsey Wilson defense limited the Tigers -- who entered the game as the conference leader in three-pointers made at 8.1 per game -- to just 2-of-15 from beyond the arc. Campbellsville finished the night with 37.3 percent (19-of-51) shooting, including 13.3 percent from deep. Lindsey Wilson junior Andrija Tintor finished with a team-high 14 points and senior Sam Waltons 11 points helped the Blue Raider reserves outscore the Campbellsvilles bench 31-15. Campbellsville senior forward Zach Allender recorded a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in defeat. Sophomore guard Shawn Savage finished with 13 points. Lindsey Wilson Men's Basketball returns to action at 3:00pmCT on Saturday, February 21, 2009, as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (KY) College. This story was posted on 2009-02-20 03:53:53
