LWC Baseball falls to No. 7-Ranked Union College 14-3

BARBOURVILLE, KY - A nine-run Union (Ky.) College sixth inning ended the Lindsey Wilson College baseball team's hopes of upsetting the No. 7-ranked Bulldogs today at Carey Stadium.




The Blue Raiders fall to 2-3 on the season with a 14-3 loss.

Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the second and another in the third.Lindsey Wilson tied the game in the top of fourth with one swing from freshman Jeff Murphy. After juniors Max Rhodes (hit by a pitch) and Justin Tucker (single) reached base, Murphy connected on his first career home run.

Union (7-0) tacked on a couple of runs in the fifth before the decisive sixth inning.

The host scored nine times in the sixth highlighted by bases clearing triple from Chris Daniels and a grand slam from Kris Mills.

Lindsey Wilson junior starter Jeremy Ezell (0-1) suffered the loss allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Union's Jeff Parson (1-0) picked up the win allowing three runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out five Lindsey Wilson batters.

The Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders Baseball Team is scheduled to return to action at 12:30pmCT against Siena Heights (MI) University in the 2009 Cancer Awareness Classic. The site for the classic: To Be Announced.
