Linda always smiles when she's with the Old Turners

2009-02-15 - Inroad, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
MY FIRST WIFE LINDA ALWAYS SMILES at least once when she gets to Inroad among the Old Turners in the cemetery there, especially when she views the marker of California Turner. "I would have been California Turner Marcum Waggener, if I'd had a choice in naming me," she always says. The trip was promted by the receipt of the writings of a relative, Joseph Turner, aka Paul Revere, sent to her by Mr. L.T. Grider. The cemetery is still one of the prettiest, most peaceful sights in Adair County. Those who can remember the old Turner house with its tall pine tree will recall a better time, maybe. The return was a Valentine's Day trip and a GBBC birding trip, though not one bird was seen at the cemetery itself. The photo on the lower left is of the Dewey and Grace Turner home. The lower right photo is of another house at old Inroad, but we weren't sure of it's name or history. The upper right is across Burns Creek near its confluence with Crocus Creek. The lower road on the right is the old road fording Crocus Creek and on to Cundiff, the road to the right across the bridge is the "new" Melson Ridge Road to Cundiff, and the top of the road going out of the picture, KY 704, leads up scenic--or infamous, depending on your point of view--Dug Hill, north to Fairplay, Gadberry, Tabor Community, and Columbia, KY. -ED WAGGENER. If anyone has a photo of the old house which stood by the Cemetery and would be willing to share it, please send it. Clicking Read More accesses the Today, Feb. 15, feature
