LWC Baseball sweeps doubleheader over Iowa Wesleyan, Scores are 3-2, 12-8; games played in Edmonton while new LWC baseball park under construction EDMONTON, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team opened its 2009 season with a pair of wins today over Iowa Wesleyan College at Metcalfe County High School Field. The doubleheader was moved to Edmonton due to the incompletion of the Blue Raiders new field at the Parkway Complex. Lindsey Wilson won the opener 3-2 and followed with a 12-8 win in the nightcap. In game one, freshman centerfielder Dustin Murphy scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Blue Raiders the 3-2 win. Lindsey Wilson junior starter Max Rhodes and junior reliever Cody Wales combined on a five-hitter win. Wales picked up his first win of the season with two shutout innings of relief. In addition to his six innings of one-run ball, Rhodes also contributed a pair of RBIs. Iowa Wesleyans Travis Parker suffered the loss allowing an unearned run in 1-2/3 innings of work. In game two, junior catcher Justin Tucker hit a grand slam to help the Blue Raiders to a 12-8 win. Rhodes drove in two runs and freshman Jeff Murphy contributed a pair of hits in the win. Freshman starter Derek Cape picked up his first career win allowing two earned runs on five hits in five innings of work.Lindsey Wilson and Iowa Wesleyan baseball teams complete the four-game series at 12:00noonCT on Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Metcalfe County High, Edmonton, KY.
