Great Backyard Bird Count: Help at the library

NEED HELP TURING IN YOUR GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT? There's help at the Adair County Public Library, 307 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. Aleina Milligan, the bookmobile librarian, has the Great Backyard Bird Count "How to Participate. It's As Easy as 1-2-3" page pulled up on one of the library's computers. The Adair County Chamber of Commerce, at the Corner of Burkesville & Fortune Streets, Phone (270) 384-6020 is helping with the GBBC, and an army of Adair County Garden Clubbers are mobilized. Their aim is to see Columbia-Adair County the top birdwatching locale in the state. Last year, Columbia came in second to Louisville, KY in the number of lists reported. ARCHITECT BRIAN P. MEDLEY, AIA architect for the new Goodwill Industries retail outlet at Holladay Place, showed drawings for the new Columbia Store at the February 13, 2009 meeting of the Columbia Planning & Zoning meeting. Colors of the split face color impregnated block on the exterior will be of a slightly different hue, but the basic design of the 10,000 s.f. structure is complete.

The Scary Tree is gone

Kay Haupt enthralled readers with the pictures of her "Scary Tree" at the top of Traylor Hill on Green Briar Road, on January 24. Only 19 days later, on February 12, she sent the photo on the right, captioned "A sad day for me." The scary tree is gone, a victim of the recent storms.
