Birthday party for Pen

2009-02-10 - Columbia, KY - Photo family photo.
A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL: Evan, Graham, their mom Amy, and Ed and Linda Waggener had an early Columbia-visit birthday celebration for Pen on Sunday, February 8, 2009. The for real birthday party will be in Shelbyville on his birthday. The younger members of the family were in Adair County to plunk rocks, dig a hole to China from Fortune Street, draw an alien on the carport, and get in a round of miniature golf. Scenic Adair Co., KY: Crocus, Pop. 16

2009-02-10 - Southeastern Adair County, KY - Photo by Kristy Keene.
CROCUS never attained the big city status of Glens Fork or Creelsboro, places north and south of it, respectively; never quite rivaled Bryan just down the road in Russell County. But on pride and beauty it took a back seat to none of them. This sign was erected in the second half of the 20th century and may not be demographically correct today. But it, and the little town are worth a day trip, anytime. To get there from Glens Fork, go south on KY 55 to the Y and then right on Crocus Road. It's less than one-half mile off KY 55. Flickr. 2009-02-10 - Taylor Co., KY - Photo by Kristy Keene.
Green River Lake was, as always, beautiful on Saturday, February 7, 2009. When this photo was taken. Kristy Keene wrote, after the ice storm, "I think everyone enjoyed a day to thaw out. Even though the wind was on the strong side, I saw a lot of people out enjoying the weather." Flickr. Additional information on the structure and walkway welcome. Dignitaries aplenty turn out for Governor Beshear

2009-02-10 - KY 61 South of LBN Parkway, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
GOVERNOR STEVEN L. BESHEAR and SECRETARY JOE PRATHER'S visit to Columbia drew a large number of communty leaders. Above, center the immediate past and present Presidents of Lindsey Wilson College, current Chancellor John Begley, wearing hat and dark glasses, with President Bill Luckey, LWC Buildings and Grounds Director Mike Newton, and Vice President Jeff Willis, looking back to talk with Adair County Marching Band President Doyle Lloyd. On the left are two of the five members of the Columbia Planning & Zoning Commission Lloyd French and George Kolbenschlage. To the left of Mr. Kolbenschlag is a hint of the longest serving Magistrate in Adair County History, Wid Harris (2). And there's a glimpse of insurance representative Gerald Doss and Adair County Circuit Clerk Dennis Loy.
