Pleasant View Baptist Church in McGaha About: Pleasant View Baptist Church By E.H. Lepiarczyk The location of the Pleasant View Baptist Church building is in the McGaha community of Adair County, Kentucky. And yes, McGaha is located between Christine and Craycraft. I have seen historical records which identify the address of Pleasant View Baptist Church at McGaha, Kentucky! Perhaps the McGaha community no longer has the pride it once did when members of my Chrisley Burton family resided there during the 19th and 20th centuries! Many people no longer know where the McGaha community is! I know where McGaha is because my grandmother, the late Effie Burton Grider, was born and grew up in the McGaha community. From my earliest memories, my grandmother always expressed pride in her McGaha, Adair County, Kentucky heritage! My great-grandfather and great-grandmother, the late Chrisley Burton and Priscilla Elizabeth Harmon Burton were charter members of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. The Chrisley Burton family faithfully attended services at Pleasant View Baptist Church for many years. My great-grandfather helped build the church! My family's pride in the Pleasant View Baptist Church and the McGaha community lives today in the present generation of Chrisley Burton and Priscilla Elizabeth Harmon Burton's descendants. My grandmother said the Pleasant View Baptist Church was known as the "Mouth of Butler Church" by McGaha community residents. The church was so known because of its location in proximity of where Butler branch runs into Sulphur Creek. The Pleasant View Baptist Church was the site of many McGaha family reunions. I remember attending some of the reunions with my grandmother and members of my family. My grandmother was particularly proud that two of her sisters married members of the McGaha family. They are the late Malinda Alice Burton McGaha and Nancy Jane Burton McGaha. The McGaha community was naturally named in honor of the McGaha family. So, I hope everyone now knows that the Pleasant View Baptist Church building is located in the McGaha community of Adair County, Kentucky! The former Chrisley Burton farm, at McGaha, is now owned by Mrs. Bobby E. Kimbler. The Pleasant View Baptist Church building is the principal landmark remaining today in the McGaha community. Many years ago, the McGaha community also had a post office and community store. The photograph taken by Ms. Kristy Keene evoked a further appreciation of my McGaha, Adair County, Kentucky heritage! This story was posted on 2009-02-09 02:54:01
