Darren Ballou scores 31 in Indian romp, 81-47

The crowd was not big, but they enjoyed quite a show as Adair County overwhelmed North Oldham County in the Saturday afternoon, February 7, 2009, make-up game at Adair County High School Gym. Coach Mark Fudge's team had its biggest margin of the 2008-2009 season, 34 points, and remains unbeaten in home play.

It was a huge game for Morehead State University-bound Darren Ballou. The 6-8 center scored 31 points. "That's the same as his shirt number," Ballou's grandfather, Joe Ballou, who has been keeping stats on Darren for his entire high school career.

Adair County, now 18-6 on the season, faces Bethlehem on Tuesday night, away, at 7:00pmCT. That will be followed by a three game home stand for Coach Mark Fudge's team. They remaining games are as follows:
  • Friday, February 13, 2009 vs. Russell County
  • Tuesday, February 17, 2009 vs. Bardstown
  • Friday, February 20, 2009 vs. Hart County
All the games start at 7:00pmCT.

81-47 highest score of the season. The 34 point margin was the biggest of the year. Adair County is on a four-game winning streak and remains unbeaten in home play.

Springlike weather renews great garden controversy

2009-02-08 - Adair Co., KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
While it is already February 8 and the crocus have not yet bloomed, the real harbinger of spring, Russell Guy Perkins fertile garden on Norman Grant Road in District 2 is already plowed. That's the edge of his Little Garden in the left photo. On the other hand, surveillance of A.L. Sinclair's garden on Saw Mill Road in District Two, lower right photo, taken today, shows no sign of a plow touching it yet. The two renowned gardeners insist there is no rivalry, though others, whom they insist are troublemakers, tout one or the other as The County's Best. Both are Renaissance men, with many talents. Russell Guy Perkins is seen in the upper right photo with his invention, a turkey call made with a styro cup. A.L. Sinclair, above in the Hopkins University blue shirt, is also a well-known cat fancier.
