Evidence overwhelming tobacco has negative impact on health

In support of: Duane Harris: "Higher tax means less smoking better health, writer says"

To Columbiamagazine.com:

I'm with Duane Harris (and Marsha Walker) on the smoking/tax issue.

The evidence is overwhelming that tobacco use has a negative impact on health. While less overwhelming, there is also strong evidence that increased cost of tobacco (taxing it more) cuts down on its use, especially among young people.

One can argue that what adults do is their own business. But that's a hard sell when the rest of us get stuck with the cost of medical care through our insurance costs and non-tobacco taxes to pay for soaring medical costs.

That makes it eveyone's business. And what about the example smoking sets for our young people? That's everyone's business too. I'm for increasing the tobacco tax significantly both because it will help off-set the health costs and cut back on young people smoking.
