(Adv) Rerun introduces Big Mouth Catfish Sandwich

2009-02-03 - 3399 Holmes Bend Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by CM Adv. Dept..
Chef Steve Cornelison at Holmes Bend General Store has invented and named his "Bigmouth Catfish Sandwich." The basic Bigmouth Sandwich #1 starts with two big pieces of golden brown fried catfish, served on a big, toasted bun, with lettuce, tomato and onion plus pickle and/or jalapeno if you like, all for just $3.00. That's a meal. A breakfast. A lunch. Or a dinner for most. He'll serve it anytime. It's always hot. The options make it one of the most interesting inventions ever. Get as a #2 for just $1.25 more and there are four (4) big pieces of catfish, or a #3 for still another $1.25 and there are six (6) pieces of catfish, and so on, with each higher number adding two (2) more pieces of catfish for just $1.25 more each higher number. Extra pieces above six are added on your plate. Hot and Tarter sauces are free and plentiful. Rerun doesn't recomment a solo diner get more than a #3; the higher numbers are for competitive eaters. The #10 is an open challenge to "Man vs. Food." And he only stacks the catfish six pieces high. The rest are artfully place on the plate or on top of your fries, if you order those. You may decide that it's Simply the Best Catfish Sandwich you ever tasted. (270) 384-7253 is the call ahead number

Birds of Kentucky: Red-bellied Woodpecker by Shamarie Claiborne

2009-02-03 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
CAUGHT IN THE ACT "Found this guy eatting my mom's walnut tree," Shamarie Claiborne writes. "He was pecking away...." And it is no exaggeration. These woodpeckers can down pretty big trees. We watch a ring around a dogwood tree grow deeper and deeper. Thought it was just one of those 9 foot tall beavers they might have a Gradyville. It looked just like a beaver logging operation, but one day we looked out and it was a woodpecker at work. -EW

Icestorm freezes Lexington, KY horse

2009-02-03 - Harrodsburg RD, Lexington, KY - Photo by Frances Salyers.
FRANCES and DARIL SALYERS did a double take when they saw this frozen horse at the entrance to a residential complex just south of Fayette Mall in Lexington, KY, on Sunday, February 1, 2009. The horse is a bronze sculpture, framed by a winter wonderland created by last week's icestorm. The Salyers went through Danville, KY on their way from Roley, KY; comparing notes, they both said storm damage in Boyle County was far worse than in Fayette. The Salyers are proprietors of D&F Deli and Grocery, Gradyville, KY.
