Five highway deaths on Kentucky roads last week One in KSP Post 15 area, in Green County, KY By Sherry H. Bray, KSP HQ Public Information Coordinator (FRANKFORT, KY) Preliminary statistics* indicate that five people died in five separate crashes on Kentucky roadwaysfrom Monday, January 19 through Sunday, January 25, 2009. All of the crashes involved motor vehicles and two of the victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-vehicle crashes occurred in Green, Marshall, McCracken, Shelby, and Warren counties. One crash involved the suspected use of alcohol. ThroughJanuary 25th, preliminary statistics* indicate that 38people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2009. This is12fewer than reported for this time period in 2008.Of the35motor vehicle fatalities, 19victims were not wearing seat belts. Three pedestrian have been killed. A total of10fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol. Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible. *These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
