Hospital Auxiliary News from Jan. 19, 2009 meeting

The Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary met Monday, January 19, 2009, at 6:30 PM at the Hospital Cafe for their monthly meeting. President Margaret Sparks called the meeting to order by welcoming those in attendance and wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Minutes of the past meeting was read by Secretary Sharon Harris and the financial report was given by Treasurer Evelyn Phelps.



Get well cards sent

Get well and thinking of you cards were signed by each member and will be sent to Mitch Harris, James Rouse who is scheduled for shoulder surgery, Edna Yarberry and Connie Burris, a long time employee of Westlake Hospital. Congratulations to Betty Flaynik, a dear Auxiliary member, who will be retiring at the end of this month from the Good Shepherd Shop. The Auxiliary extends best wishes to her and hopes she enjoys her retirement.

Volunteers needed to help in gift shop

President Sparks asked for volunteers to work in the gift shop on Sunday afternoon. Anyone willing to donate their time to do so should contact President Sparks at (270) 384-4139. It was reported that sales in the gift shop were extremely good during the months of November and December...probably the best in several years, if not the best. Our thanks and appreciations goes out to everyone who supported the gift shop.

Pecans still available for sale

Pecans are still available for sale. They are fresh being from the 2008 crop, and can be kept fresh up to one year in the freezer. Pecans may be purchased at the gift shop or you may call Evelyn Phelps at (270) 384-2574 to place an order.

Jewelry Fair will be February 4, 2009

Plans were discussed regarding the Jewelry Fair to be held February 4 in the lobby of Westlake Hospital. Sterling Silver Jewelry, fashion jewelry, latest purse styles, luggage and many other items will be for sale. There will be special buys and drawings. This is a fund raiser for the Auxiliary. Funds from the sales go to purchase needed equipment/supplies for the hospital or a redecorating project. One of the last big projects was the renovation and redecorating of the Chapel which is used by many families.

A thank you note was read from Rick Wilson, Adair County coroner thanking the Auxiliary for the contribution they made to buy helmets for children as a part of the Helmets For Kids Program.

Quilt frame needs repairs

A discussion was held on the need of making repairs to the frame of the quilt which hangs in the entrance hallway of the hospital. Contacts will be made to get this repaired.

Game prizes awarded

Following the business meeting Sue Stivers led the members in a game. Prizes, compliments of Stivers were presented to the following winners. 1st - Sharon Harris, 2nd-Pauline Davenport, and 3rd- Shirley Grider. Entertaining and inspirational readings were given by Sue Stivers and Shirley Grider.

Delwin Blair, Charles and Yvonne Marshall served delicious refreshments to the following: Charles Barnes, Pauline Davenport, Shirley Grider, Sharon Harris, Evelyn Phelps, Shirley Reliford, Margaret Sparks, Sue Stivers and Mary Evelyn Walker.

Next meeting is February 16, 2009

The next meeting of the Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary will be held Monday, February 16, 2009, at 6:30pmCT. Hostess will be Margaret Sparks. All members are encouraged to attend. The "Welcome Mat" is always out for new members. For further information contact President Sparks or any member of the Auxiliary.
