Obituary: Elzada Burton, 94

Mrs. Burton was a member of a large, respected NE Adair County family, a homemaker, and a member of the Purdy Separate Baptist Church. She leave 67 direct living descendants.

Elzada Burton, 94, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, passedaway Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 12:50amCT, at Summit Manor.The funeral service will be Friday, January 23, 2009 at 10:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Junior Holmes and Bro. Jamie Bryant the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Bearwallow Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:30pmCT Thursday, January 22, 2009.



She was born December 22, 1914, the daughter of the late William David and Sarah Ann McQueary Streeval. She was the widow of the late Forest Burton who preceded her in death on October 19, 2000, and was preceded in death by a son Darrel Gene Burton on October 6, 1974. Survived by the following:
  • Four daughters: Geneva Goodin and her husbandJack of Columbia, KY; Clarice Pendleton and her late husband Lowren of Edinburgh, IN;Rachel Pike and her late husband Bufford of Russell Springs, KY; and Irma Dean Piercy, whose late husband was Tommy Piercy of Glasgow, KY

  • Four sons: Tony Burton and his wife Janice of Edinburgh, IN; Don Burton and his wife Carol; Ronald Burton, whose late wife was Judy Burton, of Columbia, KY; Joe Burton and& his wife Shirley, Liberty, KY

  • Two sisters: Doretta Curry of Columbia, KY and Malzena Rose of Kokomo, IN

  • 23 Grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren

  • And several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by one sister, Vada Brown, and three brothers, Everet Streeval, Ernest Streeval and Vylitus Streeval.

She was a member of Purdy Separate Baptist Church and a homemaker.
