Local option petition in Adair: 1,887 signatures needed

According to information obtained from the Adair County Court Clerk's office, a wet/dry or moist local option election for Adair County would require 1,887 qualified signatures, equal to one-fourth of the number of voters participating in the 2008 General Election.

Were the election to be held for the City of Columbia only, the number is estimated to be approximately 440 qualified signatures. An exact figure for the required number of petition signers for a local option election in the City, only, was not available at the County Court Clerk's office at the time the figures were requested.

Exact details on the several options cities and counties have for many variations for local option elections may be reviewed "Kentucky Election Laws," by Secretary of State Trey Grayson, the State Board of Elections, Registry of Election Finance." which is available in the County Court Clerk's office in the Annex Building, Downtown Columbia, KY. These now include wet/dry/moist, elections in cities and/or counties, precincts, sales with meals, historical sites, precincts with golf courses, and sales at wineries.
